Zeuxine abbreviated as Zeu. in horticultural trade, is a large genus of about 90 orchids (family Orchidaceae) belonging to the subfamily Orchidoideae.


The species in this genus are generally distributed in Asia, with several species in Africa and one species found in Australia, Zeuxine oblonga. The species Zeuxine strateumatica can be found in the southern areas of the United states since its introduction in the 1930s. Plants are found in woodlands and grasslands.


Plants in this genus are terrestrial grower which are dependent on mycorrhiza. Plants usually has a dormancy period after blooming. Flowers have 2 deeply divided granular pollina and 2 stima.



The genus is named the yolk-shape formed by the arms of the viscidium
