Masdevallia chaetostoma is a species in the Masdevallia genus.

Description[]

Plant blooms in the winter with four to seven small flowers.

The type plant was found along the road between Quito and Santo Domingo Ecuador at elevations of 2500 meters on December 1973. It was cultivated by B. Malo who flowered it in July 15, 1977.

Distribution[]

Plant is found growing in the montane forest of western Ecuador at elevations of 2000 to 3300 meters.


Culture[]

Keep plant in partial shade. Plant can be grown in cool conditions. Pot the plant in fine bark with perlite or sphagnum moss. Water regularly and keep potting media moist.

Naming[]

Entomology: The plant is named after the greek word chaete which means long hairs and stoma which means mouth opening, in reference to the flower structure.

Common Name: The Hirsute Mouth Masdevallia
