Lyperanthus, abbreviated as Lyp. in horticultural trade, are a small family of terrestrial orchids from Australia.


Plants in this genus are distributed in Australia, New Zealand, and New Caledonia.


Plants grow in colonies and have narrow leaves.


Grow plants in cool temperatures with moderate amounts of light. Plants require a summer dormancy. Withhold watering and keep the medium to dry out during the summer and water regularly during the winter. Pot in a well drain terrestrial mix of soil and peat.


The genus is named after the dark color of the flowers.
