Gastrochilus, abbreviated Gchls in horticultural trade, is a genus of plant in family Orchidaceae. It contains about 60 species found in Asia.


Plants are distributed in tropical and subtropical climate zones of Asia. They are found from the Philippines to western Himalayas, southward over Dekkan in India to Sri Lanka, eastward to south China, and to the north to southern Japan in Honshu.


Plants are epiphytes


Plants are best grown hanged in baskets and on mounted and usually require moderate shade and warm to cool temperatures. Water frequently during growing season and reduce watering after flowering. If hunged the roots must be watered frequently. Plants should be grown in media that is well drained such as tree fern fibers (for small plants), medium fir bark, or sphagnum moss.
