Sophronitis tenebrosa is a plant in the genus Sophronitis.
Description[]
Plant bloom from spring to summer with three to four flowers. Flowers are 16.25 cm and fragrant. Apparently it can form a sheat first, which appears to be empty and can stay that way for several months. Then the buds quickly begin to grow inside the sheath, which can even look dried, and emerge almost unexpectedly.

Plant is found growing in the forest of Brazil at elevations of 700 to 900 meters
Culture[]
Plants should be grown in medium fir bark with partial to full sun. Plant is a cool to warm growing orchid species. Water approximately once a week. Plant can also be mounted. Some experience with this plant in Buenos Aires: grown in a greenhouse with no heating, during winter temperature can drop to 1º or 2º C (33.8 F or 35.6) for some hours at night. About 4 hours of sun in the middle of winter and first days of spring, shading from middle spring. Under these conditions the plant thrives and blooms around December (corresponding to June in the northern hemisphere).
