Pleione maculata is a species of Pleione found in East Asia.
Description[]
Plant blooms in the fall with a single 4.5 cm wide flower. Flowers are fragrant.
The plant was first published in Curtis Botanical Magazine in 1852 from species which were sent to Kew by Simons, who collected them from India[1]
Distribution[]
Plant is found growing in Yunnan China; Assam, Manipur, and Sikkim India; Bhutan; Nepal; Laos; Myanmar; Northern Thailand; and Vietnam at elevations of 600 to 2600 meters[1]
Culture[]
Plant goes dormant in the late fall to early spring. Pot plants in a mix of bark and sphagnum moss, or in 50% peat and 50% perlite. Mix should retain moisture and should be well drained. Plants should be watered constantly during growing season. Stop watering when leaves drop. Plant should be misted lightly and potting media should be kept dried during dormancy in the fall. Keep plant cool from 64° to 75°F during growing season and cold during dormancy form 50° to 37°F. Plants should be kept warmer than other species in the genus.
