Broughtonia sanguinea is a plant in the genus Broughtonia.

Description[]

Plants bloom from spring to summer with four to twelve 4 cm wide flowers.

Distribution[]

The species is endemic to Jamaica and found from elevations of from 0 to 800 meters. It is claimed that the species also occurs in Cuba but there are no herbarium specimens or live material to substantiate this claim. It is suspected that this is as a result of Bro. ortgiesiana being misidentified as Bro. sanguinea as the flowers of both species appear to be almost identical at a glance.

Culture[]

Grow in warm to hot conditions with bright lighting. Plants should be mounted on slabs tree fern root or in wooden baskets with little or no medium and prefer dry outs between waterings. Provide high humidity and good air circulation.
