Bartholina is a genus composed of two terrestrial growing orchid species.

Description[]

Bartholina is also known as the "Spider Orchid". The common name comes from the array of fine feather-like petals that surround the flower resembling the legs of a spider.

Culture[]

Plants require moderate lighting and cool to cold temperatures. Plant should be grown in a sandy well drain mixture. Water regularly about every two to three when the potting media is just becoming dry. Reduce watering during the winter, when the plant goes dormant, until new leaves form in the spring.

Naming[]

This genus is named after seventeenth century Danish scientist Thomas Bartholin.
