Encyclia alata is a plant in the genus Encyclia.


Plant blooms from summer through fall with 15 to 35 flowers. Flowers are 5 to 6.25 cm and has a sweet honey fragrance.


Plant is found growing in soil pockets and open forest trees from Mexico through Costa Rica at altitudes of 0-1000 meters


Plants grow in intermediate to warm conditions and can be grown in medium size fir bark with perlite. Plant prefers drying periods between watering and bright light is recommended. Lengthen drying period a bit in the winter.


Encyclia alata majus Encyclia alata var. majus Sepals and petals are yellow with red patches on the edge, lip is yellow with red spots
Encyclia alata parviflora Encyclia alata var. parviflora Sepals and petals are brown with yellow centers, lip is yellow with stripes and spots (E. alata var. parviflora is now known as E. parviflora)
